MACGREGOR 26M EQUIPMENT PACKAGES

AND CUSTOM OPTIONS, UPDATED OCT. 12, 2009

At Blue Water Yachts we want your boat buying experience to be fun, educational, and most importantly, a process that results in you getting a boat that is what you want.  Often, many years of dreaming goes into the decision to buy a new boat, we are here to help turn those dreams into reality.

You can select the equipment for your new MacGregor several ways.  You can start with the basic factory boat ($22,900 including free freight to Seattle as of May 2010) and select every individual option, you can order one of our packages, or you can start with one of our packages and add additional options from there.

Our packages are designed to give you a logical grouping of options that work well together for common sailing and cruising styles at a reasonable price point.  Our Lake & Day Sailing Package includes the essentials to get out on the water and enjoy your boat, including your choice of engines, plus some of the more basic comfort and convenience items.  Our Coastal Cruising Package starts with the Lake & Day Sailing Package and adds A LOT of the things that most people think make the 26M really fun to sail and cruise, this is by far our most popular package option.  New for 2009, we have added our EZ Main sail handling system as well as a nice navigation electronics package to make cruising even easier and safer.

As a result of the efficiency in rigging similar equipment together frequently, our packages include significant package pricing discounts.  If a package contains an item you prefer not to have, we can delete that item but due to the package discounts we cannot issue credit for the deleted item.  If you want to delete a significant amount of equipment from a package, you will most likely be better off to start with a lower package or base boat and add the items you want.

We have not included pricing for our options on this page, with as many options as we offer, prices can change frequently, and we know how annoying it can be to find out that the price isn't what you thought it was.  For detailed current pricing information, call our toll free phone number, or contact us by email.

Take your time, this list is long, but the information is very valuable, these ARE the things that will make your new boat fun.

Some of these items are only available on new boats ordered from us, but many are available as do it yourself kits.  See the Accessories section of our catalog for information on kit availability.

OUR BASE BOAT PACKAGE INCLUDES:

FACTORY BASE BOAT W/TRAILER AND MAINSAIL (NO JIB)

FREIGHT FROM THE FACTORY TO SEATTLE

The factory base boat price does not include any headsail (Jib or Genoa), and also has no engine or brakes for the trailer.  BWY covers the cost to get the boat from California to our rigging facility in Seattle where all the optional equipment is installed.  We deliver boats in Seattle or Portland at no cost.  Although we can ship a boat directly to you, many of our customers from all over North America come to Seattle to do their lessons and delivery.   Some then trailer their boats home with them, while for others we package the boat up and ship it to their home town.

OUR LAKE & DAY SAILING PACKAGE INCLUDES:

BASE BOAT PACKAGE EQUIPMENT PLUS THE FOLLOWING

YOUR CHOICE OF NISSAN, EVINRUDE ETEC OR SUZUKI ENGINES

We have chosen to become dealers for Nissan and Suzuki, because both offer engines that work very well on the Macgregor, not because those are the brands we sell anyway. We do not stock boats with the ETEC engines, but they are available from MacGregor and we can order them if this is the engine you choose.  All of our engines come with deluxe flush mount controls, all control cables and wiring harnesses needed for installation, a tachometer (50hp and up) and a propeller.  Click here for more Engine Choice Information.

12 GALLON FUEL TANK

We use high quality polyethylene tanks, secured in the gas tank lockers with strong tie down straps.

CUSTOM STEERING SYSTEM

Our custom designed system allows you to steer with the engine and rudders for maneuvering and slow speed control, but gives you the option of removing the linkage instantly with no tools.  It is important to be able to disconnect the engine when sailing to improve rudder feel and to reduce the wear caused on the steering system from constantly turning a heavy motor in the tilted up position. It is also a safety issue, as the weight of the motor can actually turn the rudders when the boat leans if you let go of the wheel.  The optional linkage the factory offers is very sloppy and requires that you remove 2 small nuts and bolts while bent down to the transom of the boat, not a lot of fun on a rough day!

SECOND BATTERY

Nearly all modern (fuel injected) outboards require electrical power to start, so if your battery is dead you cannot rope start them, and even on models that can be, pulling on a 50 or 70hp engine isn't like starting your 5hp lawn mower!  It is very important to add a second battery that is dedicated to engine starting.

AUTOMATIC BATTERY COMBINER

This cool little device replaces the old fashioned switch that let you switch between battery 1, battery 2, or both.  The combiner automatically senses the voltage on the batteries and hooks them together when charging, but separates them when discharging, this feature eliminates the chance of forgetting to switch the switch every time you start or stop the engine.  Nearly everyone who has been boating for long has forgotten this and been really sorry somewhere along the way.

BATTERY CHARGER

There are very few things more frustrating than getting to the marina or boat ramp ready to go sailing and discovering that you don't have enough stored electrons to start the motor or run the stereo and GPS!  This built in premium quality 3 step charger has dual outputs to properly charge both batteries, and can be left plugged in all the time without overcharging, you'll always be ready to go.

SURGE BRAKES FOR THE TRAILER

The standard Mac trailer does not include brakes, most states require brakes on any trailer over 3500#.  The optional brake system is a "surge brake" which automatically applies as the trailer begins to push against the hitch of the tow vehicle.  This system is completely automatic and requires no modifications to the tow vehicle.

MAINSAIL MODIFICATIONS

The Mainsail comes from the factory as a "bolt rope" sail with one very deep reef point, actually the second reef.  You have to go up to the mast and manually feed the sail into the track on the mast every time you raise it, and every time you lower it, it dumps on the deck, or if it's windy, tries to blow off the deck into the water.  With our mainsail slides, you load the slides into the mast track once when you rig the boat and then you just raise and lower the sail whenever you want, it's always attached to the mast.  Our intermediate reef point (actually the missing first reef) allows you to reduce sail area in moderate wind without making the sail REALLY small.  NEW FOR 2009, we are installing a cover or "gate" over the sail feed slot in the mast to allow the sail slides to go all the way down to the boom, this allows the sail to stack much smaller when lowered, it also makes reefing easier.

ROLLER FURLING SYSTEM FOR JIB

Having a roller furling system for your headsail is one of the most important items you can put on your boat, ease of sail handling and safety are just a couple of the reasons.  Without this you will be going forward to the bow every time you want to put on or take down your sail, not a good idea in bad weather. This option also allows you to reef (roll the sail up partway) as the wind increases, so you always have the right amount of sail for the conditions.  We upgrade the standard deck hardware to make the system even easier and more reliable to use.

ROLLER FURLING 105% JIB

Sometimes referred to as a "working jib", this sail comes back just a tiny bit past the mast and sheets to the tracks on the cabin top.  For most people we recommend a Jib rather than the larger 150% Genoa on the 26M as it is easier to tack, points closer into the wind, and provides plenty of power in all but the very lightest wind, when most people agree it's time to use that big motor!

JIB SHEETS AND BLOCKS

The hardware you need to actually fly the Jib.

HALYARDS LED TO COCKPIT

This option, combined with single line reefing and our mainsail modifications allows your to raise, lower, or reef  your mainsail without leaving the cockpit.  This is a real convenience and safety item

MASTHEAD TOPPING LIFT

This line runs from the back end of the boom to the top of the mast, it holds the boom up when you are raising, lowering, or reefing the mainsail.  Without a topping lift, the boom falls into the cockpit every time you lower the mainsail.

MASTHEAD WIND INDICATOR

This is the simple red wind indicator, the pointy end points to where the wind is coming from.  There are more expensive types, but they all do the same thing, and the type that includes adjustable tacking angles doesn't work on the 26M with it's rotating mast. We have also found them to be very delicate and frequently damaged on trailerable boats.

SAIL TIES

Yes, three sail ties come with the mainsail from the factory, but you need to tie them in a knot to use them and you will need a lot more if you want to tidy up the rigging for trailering.  8, and sometimes more, depending on what equipment you have on your boat are included in your purchase from us.  We are the exclusive dealer for these really cool bungees,  which have a special jam cleat making them super easy to use, and always the right length.  They also have no metal parts to rust or damage your sails or boat.

BWY CUSTOM STAINLESS STEEL SWIM LADDER

Swim ladders are fun when you get a chance to play in the water, but a second reason to have one is safety should someone fall in the water.  We have our ladders custom made to be a little longer and with one more step than the factory ladder, and each rung has a non-skid plastic step.

MAST RAISING SYSTEM

Macgregor's new mast raiser uses a winch mounted on a pole to make it really easy for one person to raise and lower the mast.

SPARE PARTS KIT

This kit includes a collection of nuts and bolts, fuses, a spare bow pin etc. including most of the things that are easy to loose or drop overboard.  It's a real bummer to have your sailing day messed up because you dropped something in the drink, just to find out that hardware can't swim!

TRAILER TIE DOWN STRAP

A nice tidy 2" web safety strap that goes over the top of the boat securing it  to the trailer, much simpler and safer then the tie down ropes the factory provides.

PORTA POTTI

We all know why we want one of these, enough said!  But a lot of people don't know the advantages of this simple system, they are really easy to use, and very easy to keep clean, which allows you to keep your boat smelling fresh.  There are no holding tanks or hoses that you can't clean thoroughly, and you don't need to worry if the pump out system at the dock will work.  They are also light weight and compact, not filling up your storage space with a holding tank.  We offer the potti with either a 2.8 or 5 Gallon waste capacity, the smaller potti gives more headroom and is lighter to carry out of the boat, the larger potti doesn't need to be dumped as often.  We do offer a full marine head, but most people prefer the low cost and simplicity of the porta potti.

MAINSAIL COVER

We provide a high quality Sunbrella cloth cover to protect the mainsail while the boat is moored.

TRAILERING AND SUN COVER FOR JIB

We provide a long Sunbrella Cloth cover that pulls up over the Jib (or Genoa) to protect it from the sun while you aren't using your boat, and to keep dirt and road grime off of it while trailering.  While it does take a minute or two to put the cover on, we prefer this approach to sewing a UV cover onto the edge of the Jib for three reasons: 1) The UV cover adds a lot of weight to the sail (not much of a problem on big boats, but a big deal on these more modest sized sails) which makes it not fly well in light wind  2) The sewn on UV cover becomes part of the sail itself, and cannot protect it from road grit and grime, the stuff still comes through the cracks and into the sail, and   3)The UV cover tends to age differently than the rest of the sail.  Many sails need to replaced just because the shape has been ruined by the UV cover.

RIGGING AND COMMISSIONING

MacGregor ships their boats with the mast, rigging, trailer lights, and a number of other things unassembled, it is critical that these things be done right for your boat to work properly and be safe.

DETAILING AND DEALER PREP

This may not sound like much, but their is a lot more to it than you might think.  In addition to the basic cleaning and detailing that each boat gets, we carefully go over every piece of equipment on each boat to check for any problems that should be fixed before delivery.  Lots of minor issues that you might think of as factory "warranty" items are really the dealers responsibility.  Our full service capability allows us to deal with these issues quickly and easily.

DELIVERY AND INSTRUCTION

We provide several hours of instruction at the time of delivery, including mast raising and lowering, setting up the sails, and everything you need to get started.  We encourage all of our customers to come to our Seattle office for an on the water sailing and boat handling lesson before you get your new boat.  For those of you who are coming from out of town to pick up your boat, we recommend that you spend a night in Seattle so that we can do the sailing lesson one day, and the on the trailer delivery the next day.  For our Portland area customers, we can do the on the trailer delivery in Portland if you prefer.

MEMBERSHIP IN BLUE WATER YACHTS CRUISING CLUB

Each year we offer a series of educational seminars as well as sailing and cruising events, including a 4 day rendezvous at a fun destination on Puget Sound.  These events provide a great opportunity to learn, meet new friends, and have fun with your new Mac.  All events are free to anyone who purchases their new or used boat from Blue Water Yachts.

SAILING TEXT BOOK, RIGGING NOTES AND CHECKLISTS

We have packaged a notebook of frequently asked questions and check lists needed from 18 years of MacGregor support.  The factory does a great job with the owners manual but our rigging and check list book will enhance it.  One of our team members (Ray) is a retired Coast Guard pilot, and is great at making simple, effective check lists as well a 26M "Operating Manual".  A "Sailing for Dummies" book is also included.

THE COASTAL CRUISING PACKAGE INCLUDES:

ALL BASE BOAT AND LAKE & DAYSAILING PACKAGE EQUIPMENT PLUS THE FOLLOWING

CUSTOM OUTHAUL

The standard factory outhaul uses a line and a small mooring cleat to adjust the outhaul tension, while this does work, it is very difficult to adjust accurately.  Our custom outhaul runs the line through a small turning block and into a clam cleat making it easy to adjust.

SINGLE LINE REEFING

This will allow you to quickly and easily reef the mainsail from the cockpit, no need to go forward to the mast in windy conditions.  This keeps you safe and comfortable.

GARMIN 441S GPS RECEIVER

The 441S GPS Chartplotter is a great compact unit that forms the heart of your navigation electronics system.

AIS RECEIVER

AIS stands for Automatic Identification System, a new system that allows you to display the position, speed, and course of all large commercial vessels (and many larger yachts) directly on your chartplotter screen.  Cheryl and I have had it on our boat for almost a year now and have been very happy with the performance.

COMPASS

We use a really nice compass that is a combination bulkhead mount and handbearing compass.  You can leave it on it's mount on the cabin back, or lift it out to take handbearings.  It is also easy to store it away for security and to keep it out of the weather.

VHF SHIP TO SHORE RADIO WITH MASTHEAD ANTENNA

Recent advances in technology have added new features to this long standing piece of boating safety equipment.  This radio is tied to your GPS receiver to provide automatic distress broadcasts.  An optional wireless remote gives you a handheld unit to use in the cockpit or on deck.

AM/FM/CD MARINE STEREO

We only use true marine grade stereos, most "marine stereos" are just car stereos with a white face.  To meet our stringent standards, all circuit boards must have a conformal waterproof coating, the entire unit must have a drip shield cover, and it has to sound great!  We can expand this system to include cockpit speakers, a waterproof remote control, an auxiliary input, full ipod control, and even subwoofers if you really want your boat to ROCK.

DODGER

This compact dodger covers the companionway hatch to keep out rain and wind, without blocking access to the foredeck. You can now stand inside the boat, out of the elements, and still see what is around you.  Comfort in the cockpit is also improved as the dodger blocks a lot of spray, wind, and rain before it reaches the driver.  With the optional zip in dodger doors, you can completely enclose the cabin, and still have the light, open feel of having the hatch board and sliding cabin top open.  For summer, we also offer the zip in doors in screen so you can get great ventilation without letting the bugs in.

SEAWARD SINGLE BURNER BUTANE STOVE

A stove on your boat is something that people tend to give a lot of thought to, one of the highlights of owning your boat is enjoying your dinner outside with a view!  With that in mind we recommend purchasing a propane BBQ to compliment the stove, as this allows you to quickly cook your steak, burgers, or whatever, outside.  The stove is great for cooking scrambled eggs or bacon in the morning or giving you hot water for your coffee or tea.  It can also cook up beans to go with your steak or burgers!  We have been using this Butane stove for several years now, it offers the high heat output and cooking efficiency of Propane, but without the need for dedicated sealed lockers for large high pressure tanks.  Butane stores at very low pressure (about 15 PSI) so it can be packaged in small cans much like a spray paint can, they are simple to use and provide about 3 to 4 hours of cooking at high heat.  This stove boils water in less than half the time of alcohol, and doesn't turn your cookware black.

FOLDING DINETTE TABLE

A BWY custom modification of the standard factory table.  While the interior is comfortable and well laid out, you will have lot's more room to move about the cabin with the table folded in half when not in use.  We find that most of the time a small table is adequate for a bowl of chips or a couple of drinks, and we really like having the extra room to move around, especially if someone is working at the galley.

CABIN ENTRANCE GRAB HANDLES

We use a pair of custom made stainless steel grab handles mounted to the rear face of the sliding cabintop hatch to make it easy to open and close, both from the inside and the outside.

12V ACCESSORY PLUG

A Heavy Duty cigarette lighter style plug inside near the galley.  You can charge your cell phone or run a laptop computer or many other 12 volt devices.

12 VOLT CIRCUIT BREAKER PANEL

This nice 6 position panel provides individual switches and circuit breakers for many of the optional accessories eliminating a lot of inline fuses and wiring clutter.

HIGH EFFICIENCY LED INTERIOR LIGHTING

We install two really bright LED lights (above the dinette and galley) to provide effective cabin lighting with very low power consumption.  For 2009 these lights are even brighter and nicer looking than before.

BWY CUSTOM STERN RAIL SEATS

One of our most popular accessories!  The seats give you extra room in the cockpit area and double as a really good place to hang the BBQ.  Everyone likes to have a really comfortable place to lounge around in the cockpit, and these seats are the place!  They look nice, and truly make the cockpit enough roomier to seat 2 extra people.  For even more comfort check out our optional Seat Cushions and Backrest Cushions.

STEERING PEDESTAL GRAB HANDLE

Mounted to the front of the steering pedestal, this stainless steel loop style grab handle is a great way to balance yourself in the cockpit.

TRANSOM FILLER

Under the helm seat is an open area, our transom filler will keep your valuables inside the cockpit and help reduce engine noise.

CUSTOM STRIPING  ( WHITE HULL BOATS )

Nice accent striping in three tone gray that makes the boat look great !

MAINSHEET BLOCK WITH SNAP SHACKLE

Having a snap shackle quick release where the mainsheet attaches to the traveler makes it quick and easy to remove for trailering, or to move it off to the side for convenience while moored.

MAST BASE BALL BEARING

The standard rotating mast works well in stronger winds, but doesn't turn smoothly in light wind.  This ball bearing upgrade solves the problem and allows the mast to rotate really easily.

SECOND 12 GALLON FUEL TANK

With a total of 24 Gallons of fuel, you can get over 100 miles range at high speed cruise, and up to over 200 miles range at lower speeds.

THIS IS A LIST OF SOME OF OUR MORE POPULAR "CUSTOM OPTIONS", THIS IS CERTAINLY NOT A COMPLETE LIST OF WHAT WE HAVE AVAILABLE, AND INCLUDES SOME FACTORY OPTIONS, BUT WILL GIVE YOU AN IDEA OF WHAT IS POSSIBLE.
